Michael Holt

CEO

Michael is the founder of Charterhouse, one of London’s most active property investment and development companies. He has worked in the UK market since 1988 with a particular emphasis on London and the South East.

He is a multi-disciplined professional with expertise across investment and commercial property. He is also adept in dealing with complex legal structures and land promotion agreements.

Passion, hard work and a demanding approach are key aspects of Michael’s business style. These attributes have helped Charterhouse grow into a multi-faceted organisation with an entrepreneurial flair.

In Michael’s early career he worked for Jones Lang LaSalle maximising returns on the Langham Estate through an active asset management programme. Later in his career Michael acquired May & Co, a boutique west London estate agency.

Michael holds a degree in Land Management from the College of Estate Management, Reading University.

Chris Old

Managing Director

Chris joined the Charterhouse team in 2003. His determination and professionalism have helped Charterhouse become one of the most active property investment/development companies in London.

He is responsible for maintaining Charterhouse London’s development pipeline, appraising and negotiating the same whilst developing relationships with stakeholders enabling the schemes to come to life. He is also responsible for overseeing the residential investment side of the business.

He previously worked for the SHV Energy Group as a commercial surveyor.

Chris holds a first class Postgraduate Diploma in Surveying from the University of Reading, and a degree in Management Sciences from Southampton University.

Tom Hesp

Director

Tom joined the acquisitions team in January 2016. He is responsible for sourcing new opportunities and asset managing various projects through to disposal. He has a strong track record in managing complex planning permissions, working with an experienced project team. Tom also has an in-depth knowledge of financial modelling to inform acquisition strategy.

Tom previously worked for Cushman & Wakefield in the London Development Group, specialising in residential development and investment. Prior to this he worked in the National Investment team working a variety of investment or funding transactions across the industrial, office and hotel sectors. During his time at C&W Tom advised on over £1.5 billion of transactions.

Guy Holt

Director

Guy joined the Charterhouse team in 2013 after graduating from Oxford Brookes with a degree in Real Estate Management. He has gained over five years’ experience working on the residential side of the company specialising in acquiring reversionary investments, developments and mixed-use residential portfolios – often utilising his adept knowledge to unravel complex property and planning issues.

Guy’s role expanded into commercial property in 2015. Since this time, he has acquired several industrial portfolios throughout the UK. Guy has been instrumental in growing the commercial side of the company, building an enviable reputation in the market. He has an experienced professional team around him, giving Charterhouse the flexibility to move forward with acquisitions incredibly quickly.

Guy is also a Land Director at Charterhouse Strategic Land.

Oliver Taylor

Director

Oliver joined Charterhouse Strategic Land in April 2018, having previously advised Charterhouse for several years on planning and strategic land related matters. Oliver brings with him over 10 years of professional experience in residential and mixed-use land promotion.

Prior to joining Charterhouse, Oliver held the position of Strategic Land Manager at Gleeson Strategic Land (part of MJ Gleeson plc) where he was responsible for assisting in the management of the company’s landholding portfolio with a value close to £200m. Oliver’s role also involved identifying/securing new development opportunities and assisting in the disposal of consented portfolio sites.

Oliver works diligently to maximise the value of each site without compromising the likely success of the promotion based upon sound planning advice in accordance with good planning and development practices.

Oliver became a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) in March 2010. In May 2014 he also become a member of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) having successfully completed their Assessment of Profession Competence.

Nick Osborn

Finance Director

Nick is a qualified Chartered Accountant and is responsible for overseeing day-to-day finance operations. He has more than 10 years' experience in the development and construction industry.

Philip Hall

Equity Development

Phil joined the Charterhouse team in 2009 and has long standing relationships with several institutional wealth managers. He is responsible for ensuring that we are deploying our capital as effectively as possible and maximising the value of our investments.

Gordon Brodie

Director Asset Management

Gordon joined the Charterhouse group in 2010. His breadth of experience has been invaluable in ensuring that assets held are managed effectively. Gordon also ensures that disposals that are required are dealt with in a timely fashion whilst maximising returns.

He has over 30 years’ experience in commercial and residential property management. Additionally he also advises a well-known west London based property trust.

Gordon holds a degree and is a well-regarded member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors.

Beverley Hilton

Group Operations Manager

Beverley joined the company in 2009 and works with the acquisitions team to ensure the successful delivery of Charterhouse’s projects from post-acquisition through to completion.

Beverley’s project management and leadership skills combined with several years’ experience in large corporates contributes greatly to the success of the business.

Samantha Hall

Financial Controller

Samantha has been with Charterhouse since 2007 in a wide-ranging role including management accounts, statutory reporting and cashflow management. Samantha is a fully qualified Chartered Accountant with the ACCA.

Maddi Simpson

Planning Manager

Maddi joined Charterhouse in 2021, having previously worked as a strategic planner at Iceni Projects gaining over three years’ experience in the planning consultancy sector.  She has worked on a diverse range of projects at various stages of the planning process and has the experience to lead on housing and employment projects of varying scale.

Capabilities include advising on strategic land portfolios; site promotion; planning applications; management of sub-consultants; and technical assessment work.

Maddi holds a MSc in Planning from Cardiff University and is working towards becoming a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute.

Mian Ahmad

Finance Manager

Mian is a qualified Chartered Accountant. As a finance professional he has more than 15 years’ experience working in the Real Estate Investment, Property Development and Construction industry.

Mian has led the finance team since joining in 2019 and is responsible for the overall finance operation of the Group. Mian brings a breadth of experience to the company aligning the finance function with the overall business strategy. He also advises on corporate structures, providing support to the Management team in achieving the business objectives.

Mariana Culeac

Accounts Payable Assistant / Administrator

Mariana joined the company in 2021. She is currently studying Business Accounting at Middlesex University. Mariana supports the finance team in the role of purchase ledger administrator and is responsible for office administration duties.

Tom Brodie

Associate Acquisitions & Asset Manager

Tom Joined Charterhouse in 2021. His primary focus is acquiring industrial estates and optimising asset management strategies. Tom has several years’ experience working in property and asset management, having previously worked with family trusts and listed property funds at Jones Lang LaSalle.

Tom graduated from Oxford Brookes University with a Real Estate Management BSc in 2014 and Finance MSc in 2015. He became a chartered member of RICS in 2019.

Karishma Shah

Commercial Accountant

Karishma joined the team in early 2020 as a management accountant, having previously worked both in professional practice and client side.

Alongside financial reporting, Karishma’s role is focused on cashflow management and forecasting at corporate level. She works closely with the commercial team providing insight into planning at project level to assist in decision making.
